Vasile Alecsandri” University of Bacău Acquires the World’s Most Advanced Humanoid Robot

Starting this month, „Vasile Alecsandri” University of Bacău boasts the world’s most advanced humanoid robot, AMECA, which has been installed in the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of the Faculty of Engineering.

This is the first robot of its kind installed in Romania. It will be used for both teaching and research activities, serving as a development platform that integrates artificial intelligence with a humanoid body, employing the latest technologies. Students and faculty will have the opportunity to expand the robot’s learning capabilities through applications written in Python, using the robot-specific Tritium operating system.

AMECA features built-in microphones, binocular cameras mounted in its eyes, a chest-mounted camera, and facial recognition software, enabling it to interact with the public. Additionally, it is equipped with motorized articulated arms, fingers, a neck, facial expressions, and the ability to blink.

Through this achievement, „Vasile Alecsandri” University of Bacău is focusing on introducing innovative technologies into its teaching and research programs, aiming to prepare the specialists of tomorrow.
