Mayor Adrian Jilcu began his term with a decisive move, proposing an 8% salary reduction for the senior management staff at Onești City Hall. The resolution was approved at the Local Council meeting on Monday, November 4, with a majority of council members supporting the initiative, except for those from the PNL party.
This salary reduction comes in response to a challenging economic climate, as many local governments face financial constraints, making prudent public resource management essential. Jilcu’s decision reflects a pragmatic and responsible approach to efficiently allocate funds to better serve the community. „Reducing salaries for the City Hall directors is the right measure in these times! In such an economic climate, this decision shows that directors are willing to shoulder part of the budgetary adjustments and contribute personally to the institution’s financial stability. Additionally, it alleviates pressure on other employee categories, preventing potential salary or staff cuts for lower-paid employees,” stated Laurențiu Neghină, spokesperson for the Onești municipality.
This salary reduction sends a message of solidarity from the leadership, demonstrating that sacrifices start at the top to maintain institutional balance. The savings generated could be directed toward community priority sectors such as healthcare, education, local infrastructure, and social assistance programs.
In the context of financial hardship, the local administration reaffirms its commitment to citizens by prioritizing essential community needs. This measure not only demonstrates solidarity but could also help increase citizens’ trust in City Hall, which is showing respect for public resources and responsibility toward community needs.
Mayor Jilcu emphasized the importance of prioritizing community projects and budget efficiency, encouraging close collaboration with council members to continue implementing measures in the public interest.
