In a major boost for drivers and the local economy, Wednesday, November 20, 2024, marks the opening of two new sections of the A7 Highway along the Buzău-Focșani route. The newly inaugurated segments, Lot 1 and Lot 2, span a combined 32 kilometers of modern infrastructure and complement the recently opened 11 kilometers of Lot 4, linking Mândrești Munteni to Focșani.
Details of the New Sections
The two sections, constructed by UMB, are as follows:
- Lot 1: Buzău (Ploiești–Buzău Section) to Vadu Pașii – This 4.6 km stretch includes a connection road to DN2.
- Lot 2: Vadu Pașii to Râmnicu Sărat – Extending over 30.8 km, this section reaches the intersection with DN22.
Key infrastructure additions include the Buzău Nord and Râmnicu Sărat interchanges. The Buzău Nord interchange links the highway to both DJ 203K and DN2 via a 6 km connection road, while the Râmnicu Sărat interchange ensures smooth access to DN22.
A Strategic Highway for Moldova
Known as the „Moldova Highway,” the A7 is a crucial project funded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). When completed, it will span 320 kilometers, connecting Ploiești to Pașcani and significantly reducing infrastructure disparities between Moldova and other historical regions of Romania.
„As more sections become operational, Moldova will benefit from enhanced economic opportunities and stronger connectivity with the rest of the country,” project representatives highlighted.
Safety Recommendations
The INFOTRAFIC Center of the Romanian Police advises drivers to exercise caution on the new sections. Key recommendations include maintaining a safe following distance and being vigilant when changing lanes.
A Step Forward in Infrastructure Development
These newly opened sections mark a significant milestone in Romania’s highway network expansion. The completion of the Buzău–Focșani segment is expected to positively influence traffic flow and bolster regional economic development.
As work continues, the A7 Highway symbolizes hope for a more connected and prosperous future for Moldova and beyond.
