The Maternity Unit at Bacău County Emergency Hospital has made a significant leap in enhancing medical care with the acquisition of a state-of-the-art ultrasound machine designed for both expectant mothers and newborns. This equipment, among the most advanced on the market, was acquired with the support of the Bacău County Council and is just one of several upgrades implemented in the maternity ward to ensure the highest standards of medical care.
The new ultrasound device enables 3D and 4D screening for fetal abnormalities, allowing mothers to view the first images of their baby early in pregnancy. Additionally, it plays a crucial role in diagnosing uterine abnormalities, ovarian cysts, and other gynecological pathologies. „Maternal-fetal medicine, a rapidly evolving field, allows us not only to monitor the health of pregnant women but also to approach the fetus as a patient, ensuring a safe birth for both mother and child,” explained Dr. Roxana Calapod, Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department I at Bacău Maternity Unit. Dr. Calapod emphasized the importance of this modern equipment, which makes it possible to conduct morphological screenings every trimester, aiding in the early detection of fetal abnormalities and preparing the medical team for a safe delivery. This multidisciplinary team—comprising gynecologists, neonatologists, pediatric surgeons, cardiologists, and anesthesiologists—now benefits from precise insights into the fetus’s condition, allowing them to establish optimal intervention plans.
For patients with gynecological conditions, the new ultrasound facilitates accurate diagnoses through detailed three-dimensional imaging. This equipment supports minimally invasive procedures, such as laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, providing modern and effective solutions for gynecological conditions.
